We started our delicious New Year’s eve feast with this sumptuous appetizer. I originally wanted to use endive leaves, as they are in season. After looking high and low, all around town and to no avail, I settled for baby lettuce leaves. It worked just as well. Here’s what you’ll need:
Smoked Salmon on a Bed of Lettuce
Ingredients
- 250g Philadelphia cream cheese
- 2 tbsp of milk
- 1 tbsp dill + more for presentation
- 1 tbsp chives, finely chopped
- 8 smoked salmon slices
- 8 baby lettuce leaves
- 20g of caviar
Instructions
- Wash the lettuce leaves and pat dry with a paper towel
- In a food processor, whip the cheese, dill, chives and milk for about 1-2 minutes
- Lay out the lettuce leaves on a decorative plate
- Spread the cream cheese mixture on the lettuce leaves
- Top with smoked salmon rolls
- Sprinkle with a little bit of caviar and dill
- Serve with some lemon slices or wedges
An amazing blend of flavors and textures, the salmon & caviar combination is always a winner, especially with a nice rosé champagne.
I tend to prefer the flavor and consistency of crème fraîche over cream cheese, but either way, this dish is a real treat!
Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. I love your blog.
Happy 2009~~~
My Taste Heaven
Is that lettuce? I’d forgotten what salad looked like after existing solely on turkey for the last few days…
I love simple yet delicious appetizers. This looks perfect!
smoked salmon makes for such a perfect appetizer! I have lots of creme fraiche and labne in my fridge, so I might replace the cream cheese with a mix of the two and make this for new years!
I love smoked salmon. I have to try this one. My son love smoked salmon too. May be I can get him to eat lettuce. By the way, Happy New Year!
